The Alabama Soybean Producers partnered with the Alabama Clean Fuels Coalition to educate diesel users about soy biodiesel. The groups hosted three workshops for schools, industry, fuel stations and farmers that emphasized the performance and environmental benefits of biodiesel.

The Georgia Soybean Commission funds research at the University of Georgia’s Center for Soybean Improvement, including efforts to create a superior-yielding, high-protein, low-phytate variety for poultry feed and varieties with increased insect resistance.

The Kentucky Soybean Board will promote animal agriculture during the National Farm Machinery Show, the nation’s largest indoor farm show. An average of 300,000 people attend the event each year, held February 10-13 in Louisville.

Maryland Farm Bureau conventioneers will enjoy a special soy gift bag in Ocean City this December thanks to the Maryland Soybean Board. The welcome bag, provided at check-in, will contain sample sizes of various soy-based items, including soynuts, lotion and a candle.

The Missouri Soybean Merchandising Council welcomed a Taiwanese trade delegation in October. The team signed letters of intent to buy between $1.35 billion and $1.44 billion worth of U.S. soybeans. Missouri soybean farmer Kelly Forck hosted members of the trade delegation at his farm.
The Nebraska Soybean Board partnered with state commodity groups to sponsor the fifth annual Nebraska Ag classic in Lincoln, Dec. 1-3. Farmers and industry leaders discussed the animal ag industry, sustainability and communicating positive ag messages.
New Jersey The New Jersey Soybean Board re-launched its Web site www.njsoybean.org. The new site includes information for farmers and the general public.
The North Carolina Soybean Producers Association will exhibit at the Southern Farm Show, February 3 through 5 at the North Carolina State Fairground in Raleigh. The checkoff will host a production research event on February 4.

New York state offers a credit for biodiesel purchases used for residential space and water heating through Dec. 31, 2011. The tax credit returns 1 cent per gallon for each percent of biodiesel blended with conventional heating oil, up to a maximum of 20 cents per gallon.
Ohio Developed by the Ohio Soybean Council and Battelle, soy-based toner is finding its way to consumers. West Point Products, a large remanufacturer of toner cartridges, currently offers a select line of HP printers, with more laser printers and copiers being added soon.

Pennsylvania Fuel distributors in the Commonwealth are gearing up to meet new biodiesel requirements. All retail diesel fuel sold must contain 2 percent biodiesel once in-state production reaches 40 million gallons per year. This occurred in January 2009. Learn more at www.pasoybean.org.
South Carolina soybean harvest ran most active from Nov. 10 through Dec. 10, but some later varieties will be harvested through the end of December. The lengthy growing season allows farmers to double-crop approximately 40 percent of soybeans with wheat, oats or rye.
The South Dakota Soybean Council partnered with the South Dakota Soybean Association to host AgOutlook, an annual one-day educational event in Sioux Falls. More than 900 producers and 80 exhibitors attended AgOutlook, which featured speaker Don Reynolds, a futurist and world economist.
